Ngcobo, who has seen little game-time this season, struck twice in a 3-0 victory over Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates, with Bafana winger Siphiwe Tshabalala adding the third.
And naturally Ngcobo was pleased to help Amakhosi defend the competition they won last term - their 13th success in total since the event was launched in 1992.
"First of all, a big thank you to my team-mates," he told the Sowetan.
"Soccer is played by a team, I would not have scored the goals if it were not because of the support of my team-mates.
"We played well and deserved to win. We are now going to channel our energies into the league. I hope we maintain the same form in the league."
Second-placed Chiefs will next face Ngcobo's former team Free State Stars at Botshabelo Stadium on the weekend.
Leaders Mamelodi Sundowns enjoy a four point cushion at the summit ahead of their respective trip to high-flying Golden Arrows.
