Cape Town - Bafana Bafana right back Bryce Moon tells KickOff.com that he was not drunk at the time of the accident which claimed the life of a pedestrian.

It has been alleged that Moon was on his way back from a Bafana party organised by captain Aaron Mokoena to mark the end of the Confederations Cup. Unconfirmed reports say it was an all-night party, which started on Sunday evening until the early hours of Monday morning.

Moon was allegedly reeking of alcohol along with two of his passengers at the time of the accident and that’s why, according to reports, he lost control of his Mercedes Benz and hit Mavis Ncube, who later died in hospital as a result of injuries to her head.

The accident occurred at 06:00 on Monday morning at corner Katherine and Grayston Drive in Sandton.

KickOff.com has tracked down Moon and he sets the record about the incident.

Bryce, what really happened?
It happened on a bend as I was driving from a friend’s place in Sandhurst.

So you were not coming from the party?

No, I left the party around 03:00 in the morning, so I was not from there. I was coming from Sandhurst.

What actually caused the accident?

I was driving on the curve of a road and I couldn’t see the women. I say women, because they were two. When I suddenly saw them I tried everything I could to avoid hitting them so I tried to drive to an opposite direction, but the confusion was that they both ran in different directions. The lady I hit ran to my direction and unfortunately, I hit her.

So did the party go all night as has been reported and did you have something to drink as it is alleged that you were reeking of alcohol and that’s probably the reason you failed to avoid the accident?

I’m not sure if it went all-night, because like I said I left before it finished. As for the alcohol, I did drink two beers at the party, but I was not drunk. The accident was unfortunate because the two ladies ran in different directions and the direction I chose happened to be the one where the lady (Mavis) ran to.

We’re told the police have charged you for culpable homicide after taking some blood samples. Is that so?

I’m not sure yet. My dad has gone to the police station and I will know later.

So after you were treated for head injuries and discharged, did you manage to speak to Mavis Ncube’s family to clear the air over the matter and offer your condolences?

Not yet, but my dad has spoken to her husband. We will be visiting them soon, but at this stage I’m not sure when that will be.

It's a pity our guys really need counselling when it comes to fame and money. Here is the situation of young star who is jolling around. This boy is now going thro a lot of stress while at the same what has happened has happened,on the other hand it is even worse for the family who had lost a wife, mom and a daughter. South Africans we must accept that we are all here on earth, criticising Moon will not bring back Mavis. The Moon family must urgently go and apologise to the family of Mavis and this young man must look after that family and thats all. Those kids are not going to suffer because their mom died because of some drunk young man. He must pay, I say he must not go to jail, those kids are not going to be educated beacuse he is in jail. he must pay.

Why is he being charged for something that was the doctor's fault? If she got treatment early enough, he would not have been charged. Take the doctor's licence to practice away, they took an oath!!!!

these 'National Heroes" need to learn to be role models! This is shocking, and if this was caused by drunkenness that somebosy has lost their life, he should spend the rest of his life in chookie. (Unless he gets the Shabir treatment). Such a big fuss about Joost's private behaviour, but becuase this is a Bafana player, somebody's loss of life is not important?? Shame on too much Moonshine!!!!

@Allenkey, 1st of all, your english is dodgy, 2nd point:- If all the doctors are fired who'se gonna help u when u r in an accident, 3rd point:- stop that bulls#t of saying u are extra careful when u r drunk, its pure stinking k#k.

It is unfortunate that the lady has passed away. But there is more to the story than just this. It was reported that the lady was turned away from a number of state hospitals on Monday morning and was only admitted to a private hospital in Morningside hours after the accident. Had she not been turned away from the state hospitals the story may not have had such a tragic end. Yes Bryce Moon is responsible and should be held accountable but we must also call to account the hospitals that turned this woman away. Govt must put an end to this doctor strike soon or we will see more unnecessary deaths

There is no excuse for this type of behaviour - he took a human life. He is obviously trying to cover up. No doubt he was drunk and speeding - showing off. I hope that he learns his lesson, and becomes an example to all those who drink and drive.
Anonymous User7/1/2009 10:57 AM
that story is so made up...but i understand...would probably do the same..

Let there be justice it is a mistake by Moon but the lady has passed what about her family, kids do you know how difficult it is to grow up without a mom, so please let the law take it's cause
Anonymous User7/1/2009 10:54 AM
@ Varo, please explain why he would be in more trouble than anyone else because of his skin color?
Allenkey7/1/2009 10:52 AM
Come on guys when i'm intoxicated i'm more carefull than being soba on steering wheel. There are two types of accident recless, neglegent and badluck. Don't just look in one way because he had two beers and he was drunk or he was speeding up.How manny of us have comply on speed limit especially that time of the morning,we think of Hijackers robberries so many thinks,so stop being smart as i saw so many people who does not even afraid of a car, they tell them selves he/she sees me he's/she's gonna wait and that person came from nowhere last time you checked there was nobody and suddenly someone is crossing the road and is 3am what the hell is happening South Africans, Seleb or not Seleb he's also a human being. Why don't you blame those stupit doctors who are on strike, they all need to be fired,to see than they are not here to help community they are after money, 99% are young doctors who just came from trainning, don't even now the job, they've got medical aid don't even care for those who does not have, because they now that their families will go to Private Hospitals,THEY CAN GO TO THE NEAREST HELL.

did i hear correct? Moon said the women were walking and someone a pentium memory asks what were the women doing on the road! Typical. Who owns the road? Running in different directions imply they were walking, hello! does sitting in the middle of the warrant someone to be run over?
varo 7/1/2009 10:25 AM
this poor guy is gonna be in such big s@#$% just because his a colord but dont wory god will help you
Fikile7/1/2009 10:09 AM
I am just sick and tired of reading about our stars driving drunk we should make an example out of one of them.
Donald7/1/2009 9:35 AM
My heart goes out to Mavis's family. A tragic loss of life at such a young age. I understand also how a grieving family has a need to blame someone and as part of the grieveing process will be angry and bitter. However, until all the circumstances surrounding the incident are revealed it is totally unfair to place that blame on the vehicle driver. Pedestrians are usually the careless ones and unfortunately they also are the ones that come off second best.Unless the driver was driving on the pavement or the wrong side of the road one must assume that the pedestrian was in the road when hit (that's where cars drive). If the driver was indeed reckless or under the influence of alcohol he must be held responsible for this death and pay the price - understand though that he too, especially if innocent, is going through hell right now. He unintentionally took a life and that can not be easy to live with.

@ Anonymous 08:52. You are a true hero to our society. Yes, anyone can have an accident BUT if ti caused by speeding or alcohol? Must we just accept it? If it were your family member killed by a drunk or negligent driver would you still say shame? Get a life!!!
Ronnie7/1/2009 8:58 AM
Whatever happens to ths chap, more than likely he will be found not guilty, so he can play 2010. He will have this incident in his mind for the rest of his life. He will think on it everyday in some form. He will never be free again from his mind.
Realist7/1/2009 8:58 AM
Should he be charged with manslaughter ? If Mavis had being admitted to hospital she would have lived, The cause of death was lack of medical treatment
Gert7/1/2009 8:56 AM
It seems to me once again we do not ask the relevant question: what were the women doing on the road. This sort of accidents will always happen because people in South Africa have not yet learned that you must stay off the road. You only cross a road if it is safe to do so. Actually, whether Moon had two or more beer is irrelevant. People must stay off the road!!!
Anonymous User7/1/2009 8:52 AM
an accident is something that can happen to any 1, no need to kill moon for what happened. only shame to the family who lost their member at her early age.
Reuben Masoga7/1/2009 8:49 AM
Ag Shame poor Moon, i like it when a man tells the truth. Moon was as sober as Motata so What. What if he had more than 2?
Anonymous User7/1/2009 8:46 AM
I agree. Not enough evidence, bloods lost, no vitnesses etc. If it were you or I, we would have been locked up, and possibly, post bail. Why waste our time reporting this.
Anonymous User7/1/2009 8:36 AM
I (and a lot of other people who work in Sandton) saw the Merc wedged between the tree and the wall on our way to work. Trust me, to get the car in that position he must have been flying! And in that area the roads are well lit (and the bend is not that sharp), so if he was doing a reasonable speed he would have seen the woman/ women and had time to slow down to let them cross the road.
Anonymous User7/1/2009 8:34 AM
"Smoke and mirrors" he should be in marketing with that BS story!
Anonymous User7/1/2009 8:32 AM
I am sorry you had to go through that trauma. My sister and I also had an accident and the pedestrian died on the spot. I wish pedestrians could me more careful and considerate of motorists.
Anonymous User7/1/2009 8:29 AM
He left at 3 am ... that is an all-nighter ... and had only 2 beers!? What was his speed coming around the bend?
Anonymous User7/1/2009 8:25 AM
Shame the man on the moon can't count, must be related to P Div
Anonymous User7/1/2009 8:16 AM
This is hardly a conclusive interview that detailed what happened or did not happen. Surely, Moon will not admit to being drunk. Two beers is more than the legal limit anyway. However, cannot imagine what speeds he was driving since he admits that he chose one side to avoid them but still managed to bang one seriously enough to kill her. If he was driving at 80km/h, then surely if he reacted like someone who was not drunk, he would have been able to avoid the accident. Furthermore, what is the deal about coming from a friend's place in Sandhurst so early in the AM when he had been at a party at 3am? I sense a cover-up. On the other hand, some of the pedestrians do walk like they own the roads and this create problems when you have to choose to bump the pedestrians or endanger oncoming traffic
Anonymous User7/1/2009 8:11 AM
Innocent until proven guilty UNLESS you are a celebrity!!! Why waste our time reporting on this, we ALL know he will be innocent in the end!!!! The blood tests will go missing or some lame negligent excuse will crop up!
Anonymous User7/1/2009 8:02 AM
Two beers? Wow, thats like saying I had two beers at my graduation party...
