Golden Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi feels it was a mistake to give his young team big bonuses following their MTN8 success in October.
Abafana Bes'thende humiliated Ajax Cape Town 6-0 in the final of the prestigious event and the players were rewarded with a healthy share of the R8 million prize money.
However, the ninth-placed Arrows have since struggled for consistency in the league, and Mnqqithi believes the sizable bonuses are a contributing factor.
"I honestly think that our MTN8 victory and the big bonuses that we gave to our inexperienced team were some of the factors that we have learnt some lessons from," he told Arrows' official website.
"There was nothing wrong in rewarding hard work but maybe our timing was not the best and I also take full blame for such decisions because I also agreed when management wanted to give them out. This is one big lesson that we have all learn
