Johannesburg - Benson Mhlongo is set to walk away from the unlicensed gun saga unscathed as one of the suspects intends to confess.
The Orlando Pirates midfielder was arrested along with five others when their vehicle was pulled over by police last month.
During the search, the firearm, which was reportedly loaded with 13 bullets was found in the boot of a white BMW, which belongs to Mhlongo.
On Wednesday, the case was postponed in the Nelspruit Magistrate's Court.
Captain Leonard Hlathi revealed one of the suspects was willing to come clean. "The case has been postponed for further investigation. The firearm still needed to go to ballistics," he said.
"It is definitely not Benson Mhlongo who wanted to confess that the firearm belonged to him but because we have already sent it to ballistics, we need to get the results first."
Siyabonga Mhlongo, 33, Thokozani Mbatha, 24, Mlungisi Timothy Nkosi, 22, Precious Busisiwe Bunde, 20, and Millicent Ngobese, 22 - are the other suspects.
They were all released on R1000 bail, apart from Siyabonga Mhlongo, who had a pending murder case against him. He had to pay double the amount.
The Bucs star and his co-accused will appear in court again on November 17.
