McCarthy: Time to clinch TKO

Johannesburg - Orlando Pirates striker Benni McCarthy is determined to help his team beat Golden Arrows as they target their maiden Telkom Knockout trophy. Since the tournament's inception in 1992, Bucs have not managed to claim the silverware while Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs have racked up eight titles.

Ziwa Mo was the only title Pirates missed out on last season, as Amakhosi beat them 3-0 in the final, but with their bitter rivals out of the competition this term, Julio Leal's side are the frontrunners to end their TKO hoodoo.

The Sea Robbers are set to face Arrows in the semi-finals on the last weekend of November after McCarthy netted a brace to see his side past Moroka Swallows in the quarter-finals last week.

"We are happy to be in the semifinals and are looking forward to the game against Arrows," Bafana Bafana's all-time top scorer told the Sowetan.

"The Telkom Knockout is the only title that has been eluding Pirates for some time, and it is high time we bring the title to Parktown once and for all.

"We just need to keep on working hard to deliver on our promise of sweeping the boards in the Premier Soccer League this season. I strongly believe we are well on track to achieve it now that the MTN8 is in the bag."
