Mbalula to lead SAFA inquest

Johannesburg - The investigation into the shambolic running of the South African Football Association will kick into full swing on Tuesday when Minister of Sport Fikile Mbalula addresses the organisation.

The meeting has been set up in order to delve deeper into the reasons behind Bafana Bafana's recent failures, with Pitso Mosimane's men having seen their 2012 Africa Cup of Nations dreams halted at the qualifying rounds.

The national side were also well below their best last week as they could only muster a goalless draw against Senegal, a side who failed to win any of their Group A encounters in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.

South Africa's struggles on the international stage run deeper than just the first-team though, with the Under-23 side having failed to qualify for this year's Olympic Games while the Under-20's were dumped out of the African Youth Championships in the early stages.

One of the major issues up for discussion this week will centre around the committee that misled Bafana, and the nation, into believing the draw against Niger in the final AFCON qualifier was enough to earn their progress to the finals.

Mbalula will be joined by the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee board, who were responsible for assembling the team to investigate domestic football's governing body.

SAFA executive committee member Mzwandile Maforvane is also expected to be called before the committee to explain his protests against the probe into the misreading of the CAF rules regarding AFCON qualification.
