Maradona enjoys maiden win

Dubai - Diego Maradona enjoyed his first victory as coach of UAE side Al Wasl on Thursday, a day after telling fans to stay at home and watch a DVD if they found it too stressful to follow his team.

Al Wasl's goals against promoted Emirates in the second round of matches in the Etisalat Cup came from Argentina's Mariano Donda with captain Essa Ali scoring twice in the last five minutes.

In previous matches under Maradona's control, Al Wasl had lost two friendlies as well as the cup opener 4-3 to Al Jazira.

When asked on the eve ofthe game to reassure fans about his side's poor start, Maradona told the Gulf News: "If you're scared don't come to the matches. Stay at home and watch a DVD or a comedy series.

"There is nothing to be scared about in football, it is about passion and entertainment. If you like to be entertained watch it, but if you dont then stay away."

"I like to win and I'm here to win and achieve great results with Al Wasl. Al Wasl fans shouldn't feel worried, we'll be able to get great results - we have a great squad with good skills and great ambition and work ethic. They are all very good men who want to achieve something in this sport."
