Cape Town - ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema has entered the controversy on Bafana Bafana coach Joel Santana’s future by calling on the Brazilian to resign.
Malema says in a report in the
Pretoria News, that if the Bafana mentor refuses to do so, he wants Lucas Radebe to be brought in to work with the Brazilian in the run-up to the World Cup.
“Santana must go and (Carlos Alberto) Parreira must not come back,” he told a 1 700-strong delegation of students at the University of Turfloop in Polokwane on Wednesday night.
“If we lose, we must lose to one of our own. And if we win, we win with our own. Lucas is well placed to do this job. He is the best of South African football. He is proud to be one of our own.
“And because these (Bafana Bafana) boys grew up wanting to be like Lucas, why can they not be coached by him if they want to play like him?” he says in the report.
“As a winning nation, we can't have a losing team,” Malema added.
