Cape Town - Following on the news that 18-time English champions, Liverpool are confirmed to play a friendly match against PSL outfit, Ajax Cape Town later this month, reports now suggest the match may yet be put into jeopardy.
Kickoff.com reports that the PSL is not happy for the friendly to take on the proposed date as it falls within the regular South African soccer season.
The Nedbank Cup final is seen as the final match of the local soccer season and takes place on May 25.
The match between the Urban Warriors and the Reds, to take place at the Cape Town Stadium, is scheduled for May 21, with tickets for the match set to go on sale on Thursday.
However, City of Cape Town's Mayoral Committee member for Tourism, Events & Marketing, Grant Pascoe, confirmed the match will still be played, but that it is up to the Ajax to deal with any scheduling issues after he spoke to their CEO, George Comitis.
“I only just got a call from George (Comitis) to tell me about it so I don’t have all the details, but that is their problem to sort out.
“We got the go-ahead from FIFA, SAFA and the EPL, so we are not too fazed.”
Ajax are due to play their last league match against Golden Arrows on May 19, two days before they are to take on Liverpool.
They currently find themselves in 14th place in the 16-team PSL log, three points above their rivals, Chippa United.
Should Ajax drop to 15th place on the log and finish the season there, it would mean that they will be involved in the promotion/relegation playoffs, which are yet to be scheduled, bringing in even more doubt as to whether their match against Liverpool should actually take place.
