Liverpool beat Sparta
London - Dirk Kuyt headed in a late winner as Liverpool beat Sparta Prague 1-0 in the second leg on Thursday of their Europa League last-32 match to squeeze through by the same score on aggregate.
The Netherlands forward glanced home an inswinging corner from Raul Meireles in the 86th minute, sparing the three-time competition winners the need for extra time at Anfield.
Liverpool, which will play Lech Poznan or Braga in the second knockout round, dominated the second leg but could not find a way past goalkeeper Jaromir Blazek until Kuyt's late goal.
The Europa League represents the Reds' last chance of silverware this season. They have been knocked out of both domestic cup competitions and sit sixth in the Premier League.
