Lionel Messi to be a dad

Buenos Aires - Hopes of seeing a heir to the world's best football player have received a boost after Argentina's Lionel Messi confirmed that his girlfriend Antonella Roccuzzo is expecting a baby boy.

"I know it's going to be a boy," Argentine media quoted Messi as saying.

"I didn't want to say anything because we never discuss our private lives, but it's confirmed and it's a joy for my family and her family. We're looking forward to that moment," the Barcelona player was quoted as saying.

Messi, who turns 25 next week, reportedly made the comments on Saturday in Cancun, Mexico, at the end of a charity match to benefit his foundation.

Two weeks ago, the Argentina captain appeared to confirm the pregnancy on the pitch by putting the ball under his shirt, as if to simulate an expecting mother's belly, after a goal in in a packed Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires.
