Cape Town - The new SAFA executive had their first National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Tuesday, but PSL chairperson Irvin Khoza was conspicuous by his absence.
Asked why the chairperson of the PSL was not there, SAFA CEO Raymond Hack said that Khoza, together with Manto Madlala of Golden Arrows, had sent their apologies that they will not be available.
“Everyone from the PSL, including Mrs Natasha Tchiclas, were there, but Mr Khoza and Miss Madlala sent their apologies as they are overseas. The meeting went on very well and we discussed a lot of things about the football,” Hack said.
Since the elections of SAFA’s new office bearers, there has been bad blood between the PSL and SAFA, with both pointing figures at each other for doing wrong ahead of the elections which saw Kirsten Nematandani winning the SAFA presidency after both Khoza and Danny Jordaan had withdrawn from the race.
Among some of the things discussed were the teams that will participate in the COSAFA Senior Challenge Cup in Zimbabwe from the October 17.
“We have agreed that we will send a development team consisting of the Under-23, Under-20 and players from the National First Division.
“We have agreed to approach two gentlemen to coach the team but because we have not yet talked to them it would be inappropriate to tell you their names,” Hack said.
