Johannesburg - Mamelodi Sundowns caretaker coach Trott Moloto has vowed to take action against Mabhuti Khenyeza for his unnecessary red card in the 1-0 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday.
The striker received a second yellow card when he jumped to punch the ball, which was on its way to being collected by Amakhosi goalkeeper Arthur Bartman, with his hand in the Telkom Knockout quarter-final.
It was Khenyeza's third red card this season and Moloto was not impressed with the forward's costly mistake.
"It is something everybody at Sundowns is disappointed about. It is a lack of discipline and something that we will definitely be brought forward at Downs. We will look at that and we will inform the public what action we will take," Moloto said.
The former Bafana Bafana mentor also admitted that the team missed Matthew Pattison in midfield.
"We were unfortunate in the first 15 minutes. I think we dominated the possession and all of the sudden we just collapsed simply because at a time Esrom (Nyandoro) started the game he was not 100 per cent fit. We relied on him and we missed Pattison so we had to come with other ideas and it affected us very much.
"But I don't want to take anything away from Kaizer Chiefs. They performed very well on Sunday and they put up a very good performance and good luck to them. Let's hope they can go further in this tournament.
He also explained the reason behind introducing Manqoba Ngwenya, who has not played a game for the club all season, as a late substitute for the injured Eduardo Ferreira.
"It is only fair to give players like Manqoba a chance, since most of our players are in Brazil with Bafana," he concluded.
