Jordaan eyes 2014 SWC post

Johannesburg - The head of the local organising committee (LOC) for last year's FIFA World Cup, Danny Jordaan, has reportedly been assured by FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke that he will be named later this year as a member of the LOC for the 2014 global showpiece in Brazil.

Valcke told The New Age that Jordaan would be a useful member of the LOC for the quadrennial competition in the South American nation after his success at the helm of South Africa's succussful hosting of the tournament.

"As CEO of the 2010 LOC, Jordaan will be a member of the 2014 FIFA World Cup organising committee to give the experience needed," Valcke told the daily newspaper.

Valcke said the committee would be named after the FIFA congress in Zurich, Switerland in June. Jordaan, meanwhile, was one of three 2010 LOC members who retained their places on the committee which was reduced from 21 original members this week.

Jordaan, SA Football Association (SAFA) president Kirsten Nematandani and SAFA vice-president Mwelo Nonkonyana stayed on board to tie up any loose ends remaining from last year's competition.
