Valencia eyes United Cup successes

Cape Town - Antonio Valencia says the EFL Cup victory over Southampton has given Manchester United the confidence they need to go on and win both the FA Cup and Europa League.

The Red Devils defeated the Saints in a thrilling 3-2 final at Wembley last weekend, and now face Chelsea away in the six-round of the FA Cup before taking on FC Rostov in the round of 16 of European competition.

While their current position of sixth on the Premier League standings means a league title is beyond the club's reach, the United full-back sees no reason why they can't claim a treble of cup victories this season.

He said: "We are thinking about these three trophies. I think we can do it. We have to realise we are Manchester United and that we can go on to win these three trophies.

"This is the mentality that we have. This first trophy has given us much confidence.

"We haven't given up hope [in the Premier League] this year. We'll still fight for the league this season, but if we can't do it this year, then we go into next season and we will fight for the league."

Valencia added that he has thrived under Jose Mourinho this term.

He added: "I think it's totally acceptable to say I have improved my game and he's given me a lot of game time, which has been very important.

"I'm still quite an attacking player. I feel comfortable going forward because I have played as a right winger.

"I like to contribute to the attacks but it's a bit more about not committing that error when playing at right-back."

United next face Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Saturday and will be looking to move into the Champions League places being just one point out of the top four.

Kick off is at 14:30.
