Szczesny wants Roma stay amid Juve interest

Cape Town - Roma president Jim Pallotta claims Wojciech Szczesny wants to continue his journey with the Italian club as the on-loan goalkeeper prepares to return to Arsenal.

The 27-year-old was loaned out to the Giallorossi for the last two years after finding himself behind Petr Cech and David Ospina in the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium.

Szczesny impressed for the Eternal City outfit this past season, having featured in all 38 Serie A games and keeping 14 clean sheets - his exploits reportedly drawing the attention of Juventus and Napoli.

The Poland international's agent insisted last week there was no agreement with Juve as his client first wanted to speak with Gunners boss Arsene Wenger before deciding on his future.

But Pallotta says the gloveman has asked to remain at Stadio Olimpico, where he has become the undisputed number one since making the move to Italy in 2015.

"He told me that he wanted to stay with us," the American businessman revealed. "I'll say more, I was surprised by the fact some of the players I thought had wanted to leave came up to me before and after the final game to say they wanted to remain.

"It's a sign we've got a good group, we just lack some depth and Monchi will help us with that. Our youth academy products have a lot of talent and they will no longer be loaned out all over the place. We'll put them at the disposal of our squad."
