Ronaldo scores four as Madrid thrash Girona

Cape Town - Cristiano Ronaldo scored four as Real Madrid beat Girona 6-3 on Sunday night at the Santiago Bernabau as Zinedine Zidane's men made it four consecutive wins for the month of March.

From the off Madrid looked dangerous and created two good chances before opening the scoring. Ronaldo opened his account for the night in the 11th minute when finishing off an intricate team move.

Christhian Stuani leveled matters for the visitors in the 29th minute as the teams headed into half-time at 1-1.

The Portuguese attacker then struck again to restore the lead for the home side in the 47th minute with a clinical left-footed strike that went in off the underside of the crossbar from around the penalty spot.

Madrid then further extended their lead 10 minutes later, with Benzema and Marcelo exchanging passes before Ronaldo set up Lucas Vázquez who made no mistake with a low drive from inside the area.

Three minutes later came their fourth of the night as Asensio fed Benzema whose effort was parried by Bono but the rebound fell kindly to Ronaldo who again was on hand to rifle home from point-blank range.

Girona pulled one back in the 67th minute, with Stuani once again nodding the ball home from yet another set piece to make it 4-2.

Zidane then introduced Gareth Bale and Luka Modric for Asensio and Mateo Kovacic with the Welshman getting on the score-sheet to score Madrid's fifth shortly after coming on.

Juanpe then cut the deficit from an 88th-minute free-kick with the scoring rounded off in injury time by yet again Ronaldo whose strike brought his tally for the night to four in a goal-fest at the Bernabéu.
