Rashford backs Rooney to play for England again

Cape Town - England forward Marcus Rashford has backed Manchester United team-mate Wayne Rooney to get back into the Three Lions team before the end of his career.

Rooney was once again left out of England manager Gareth Southgate's squad for the upcoming games against Scotland and France, after the 31-year-old struggled to get regular game time under Jose Mourinho.

However, Rashford believes Rooney still has a lot to offer the England team and shouldn't be written off just yet.

"Wayne is a massive influence around the whole squad," Rashford told reporters, according to Goal.

"He still has a lot to do in his career. There's still a lot trophies he will hope to be playing for. Knowing Wayne, it's nowhere near over."

Meanwhile Rashford has reiterated that he sees his long-term playing future at centre-forward.

The 19-year-old, was mainly used in wide positions by United manager Jose Mourinho this season, before an injury to Zlatan Ibrahimovic saw him moved to a central role, where he thrived.

England face Scotland in a World Cup 2018 qualifier at Hampden Park on Saturday, and face France in a friendly next Tuesday.
