Navas: League Cup victory will boost morale

Cape Town - Manchester City winger Jesus Navas believes a win over Liverpool in the Capital One Cup final could kick start their charge for the Premier League title.

The Citizens face off against the Reds at Wembley on Sunday in a bid to secure the trophy for the second time in three years, and Navas believes their last triumph against Sunderland gave them the momentum to go on and win the league title.

"It would be fantastic to win this trophy, we are involved in the Premier League title race and it would set us fair for rest of season," the Spain international told Sky Sports.

"It is important to win as many as we can. [In 2014] it almost relaxed us to go on and challenge for more that season.

"It was a confidence boost, and gave us extra motivation to go on and win the title that year."

According to the 30-year-old, the Citizens squad has never been stronger despite not winning any silverware since that season, and he admits the players and Pellegrini are focused on bringing more success before the end of the campaign.

"Couple together the signings since that date with the players already here, I think we have strengthened," the former Sevilla winger added.

"If we can win this weekend it will be great. It will be an entertaining final, every game is different and we need to think of ourselves.

"Other important games follow, but first we must concentrate on this final. Our manager is focused, prepares well and is very demanding and will do it again for this final."

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
