Napoli: Only Atletico bid for Higuain

Cape Town - Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has revealed that only Atletico Madrid have made an offer for sought-after striker Gonzalo Higuain.

The Argentina international has become hot property after a superb campaign for the Partenopei, in which he scored 36 goals in just 35 Serie A outings.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Higuain since the end of last season, while Italian champions Juventus are also reportedly interested in securing his services.

But De Laurentiis claims he has received a solitary bid for the 28-year-old and it came from Los Rojiblancos, although the amount is nowhere near the €94m release clause specified in his contract at Stadio San Paolo.

"The only offer for Pipita [Higuain] came from Atleti," the Italian film producer was quoted as saying by AS.

"Their president called me offering €60 million plus two or three players, but I told him it could not be, very calmly."

De Laurentiis also responded to speculation that Juve have in contact with Higuain this week, expressing his doubts that the former Real Madrid ace would consider a move to Turin.

"Gonzalo would be betraying himself," the 67-year-old added. "You cannot sing a love song to Napoli's fans in their stadium, and then put on the jersey of their worst rival. It would be absurd."
