Cape Town - Ronald Koeman was delighted as Everton claimed a much needed win before admitting that his side are 'in a difficult moment'.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin netted a brace, with Omar Niasse also on target in the 3-0 League Cup win over Sunderland.
The Toffees' reward for their victory is a fourth round tie with Chelsea.
After the match, Koeman, whose side had lost four consecutive games without scoring, said it was important for their confidence to win this tie.
He said: "We worked hard, the boys did well and we scored three goals It was a good game. maybe we had chances to score more goals.
"Everybody knows we're in a difficult moment and scoring goals and winning games is the best medicine to get our confidence back. Let's hope it is a boost for the coming Saturday."
Koeman also praised Calvert-Lewin for his contribution.
"He did well. He's strong, he's fast. I think the first goal was really important.
"We were by far the better team but you have to make the difference by scoring."
