Amajita top after Cameroon demolition

Cape Town - Amajita took early leadership of Group B of the 2017 Total Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations thanks to a Luther Singh hat trick in their 3-1 win over Cameroon in the group’s second match played at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Monday.

According to supersport.com website, Senegal and Mali played out a 1-1 draw in the early kick off played at the same venue.

Cameroon had taken an early lead in the 14th minute through Eric Ayuk Mbu but South Africa were back on level terms two minutes later through Luther Singh who netted from a well taken free kick.

The Sporting Braga B forward put the Amajita in front for the first time in the 25th minute as he converted a penalty which was won by Bidvest Wits midfielder Sibongakonke Mbatha.

Singh completed his hat-trick in the 57th minute when he weaved his way through the Cameroonian defence before rounding goalkeeper Junior Dande and in the process shot to the top of the scorer’s chart.

In the group’s opening match played earlier, 10-man Senegal came from behind to draw with Sudan.

Senegal had captain Mamadou Diarra sent off for a late challenge on Hassan Hassan in the 18th minute. And it was Hassan who gave Sudan the lead when he converted a penalty in the 20th minute.

Senegal equalized at the death through Ibrahima Niane.

The results from Group B first round of matches mean that South Africa lead with 3 points while Senegal and Sudan are tied on a point apiece. Cameroon crop the bottom of the group with no point.
