Versailles - French prosecutors have provisionally detained three men arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of blackmailing Mathieu Valbuena with a sex tape allegedly featuring Lyon's French international, sources said on Thursday.
One of the suspects was charged with "blackmail and being part of a conspiracy" by a court in Versailles on Wednesday evening and is being held in custody, a judicial source reported.
Two other men detained by the same investigation in Marseille since Tuesday are waiting to appear before a judge.
It is claimed the suspects are in possession of a sex tape Valbuena is said to have made with his partner.
A source close to the investigation said the existence of the tape "has yet to be proven".
Former Liverpool and France striker Djibril Cisse was among those arrested Tuesday by police in Versailles near Paris.
Cisse, 34, who won the Champions League with Liverpool in 2005, was released without charge later in the day.
Cisse explained: "This is something that could have been very bad for me and for him (Valbuena) but there's nothing to it.
"They (French police) came to get me to hear my side of the story. I've never blackmailed anyone. Mathieu is a friend of mine."
"When we played at Marseille together I used to take him to training.
"There is no scam. I simply warned him to be careful. He lodged a complaint, my name is on it and they questioned me. That's all."
Cisse himself made a complaint to police in 2008 after claiming he was the target of a blackmail attempt involving a sex tape while he was playing for Marseille.
