Cape Town - Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has confirmed that striker Luis Suarez does not have a "no biting" clause in his deal with the La Liga club.
Signed from Liverpool for £75 million, Barcelona have bought the most brilliant yet troubled striker available in the modern game but the club's officials did not take extra precaution against the player's future behaviour.
Currently serving a four month ban for biting Giorgio Chiellini during a World Cup match, the club did not include a "no biting" clause in his contract according to the Telegraph.
This is the third time Suarez has committed this offence.
Bartomeu told CNN that there is no such clause.
"If the clause did exist we wouldn't say it, but it doesn't exist."
"We didn't rethink the decision (to sign him) and we told Luis after the bite. He knows he did wrong.
"He apologised. That's very important for us."
