Cape Town - Bayern Munich and Germany forward Thomas Muller hopes to eclipse the World Cup goalscoring record set by compatriot Miroslav Klose.
Muller, who won the Golden Ball at the 2010 tournament after scoring five goals in South Africa, netted five times once more in Brazil as he helped his country claim World Cup glory, finishing behind only golden boot winner James Rodriguez.
The 25-year-old now has 10 World Cup goals to his name and is confident he can chase down's Klose's all-time record of 16.
"Those are two special accolades, indeed. Even though it's only the second place," the Bayern attacker told Kicker. "But at a World Cup you try to give it your all for your country. And that's why I am delighted.
"I am very pleased with the World Cup. I contributed my share, just like I wanted to. I did not expect to play such a good role in the race for the Golden Boot again.
"It's pretty unusual to achieve that again. But this time someone scored six goals. Theoretically, I could play two more World Cups. But I can't just automatically assume that I'm going to score five at every tournament.
"It'd be nice to achieve it, but let's wait and see."
Despite his exploits for Germany, Muller has been significantly less prolific at club level and has yet to challenge for the top-scorer title in the Bundesliga, admitting that a shorter tournament suits him more.
"I don't think that I'll ever achieve that, because I have to play more than seven games. I think that the World Cup modus fits me best," he concluded.
