Jonas joins Benfica

Lisbon - International Brazilian striker Jonas Goncalves Oliveira has signed a two-year deal with Benfica, the Portuguese club announced Friday.

The 30-year-old former Valencia player, who was without a club, cost Benfica nothing.

The transfer was realised outside the allocated window "because Jonas had ended his contract with Valenica before the end of the transfer period", a club spokesman said.

Jonas has won eight caps for Brazil, the last coming in 2012.
