Italy legend handed jail sentence

Cape Town - Fabio Cannavaro, a 2006 World Cup winner with Italy, has been sentenced to 10 months in prison.

According to the Guardian, the Italy legend breached court orders and now faces almost a year behind bars.

The former Real Madrid and Juventus star defender, was ordered to keep out of a property after authorities seized it.

The order was handed down by an Italian court last month and Cannavaro along with his brother Paolo of Sassuolo and wife Daniela Arenoso were given custodial sentences.

All three parties are appealing their sentence meaning the sentence is suspended until the court reaches a final verdict on the matter.

The 41-year-old former Italy captain has had several legal problems since finishing his playing days.

In October, authorities seized almost €1 million's worth of goods linked to the soccer star and his wife linked to a tax evasion investigation into his affairs.

Cannavaro currently works as coach of Chinese side, Guangzhou Evergrande.
