Hummels blow for Germany

Berlin - Borussia Dortmund central defender Mats Hummels has pulled out of Germany's friendly Wednesday against the United States and a Euro 2016 qualifier three days later against Gibraltar.

Hummels has been labouring for weeks with tendonitis of a hip muscle which also hampered him in the German Cup final 3-1 defeat to Wolfsburg on May 30, the German football federation DFB said.

Coach Joachim Low has meanwhile agreed with Bayern Munich that defender Jerome Boateng joins up with the squad from Wednesday.

He will not play in the friendly against the United States in Cologne but is available for the Euro 2016 qualifier against Gibraltar in Faro, Portugal.
