Giwa not going anywhere

Cape Town - Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) faction leader Christopher Giwa said he did not recognise Amaju Pinnick as the president of the newly-elected administration.

Pinnick is expected to take over the reins from outgoing president Aminu Maigari with immediate effect but Giwa, who was elected to the same position by a NFF faction two months ago, is not budging.

"It came to our notice that some people gathered in Warri to conduct an illegal election. We are also aware that a court of competent jurisdiction outlawed the processes embarked upon in Warri," Giwa told the Vanguard on Wednesday.

"We shall pursue the course of justice and fairplay as guaranteed by the 1999 Constitution on us as Nigerians.

"FIFA as a law-abiding institution stayed away from the illegal Warri Congress. They are aware that there are court processes in place against the so-called Congress," said Giwa, suggesting that Tuesday’s election was a farce.

The next port of call for Giwa will be to convene a congress of his own on Thursday, where the next course of action will be decided upon.

"However in line with the orders of the Federal High Court, the board shall meet on Thursday October 2, 2014 in Abuja, where decisions shall be taken and Nigerians shall be properly briefed at the end of the meeting," read the statement released by Giwa.
