Cape Town - Germany general manager Oliver Bierhoff concedes there is still "no exact prognosis" on when Bastian Schweinsteiger will return from a knee injury.
The Bayern Munich midfielder has been sidelined since the start of August, having only featured once for the club, against the MLS All-Stars during pre-season.
Local newspaper Bild suggested on Thursday that Bayern fear he could be absent until the turn of the year, with Schweinsteiger yet to take part in full training with the rest of Pep Guardiola's squad.
Bierhoff was speaking to the media ahead of the upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers against Poland and the Republic or Ireland when he revealed that the 30-year-old is still some way off from making a full recovery.
"We are hoping that he will recover soon, but there is no exact prognosis," the former Germany international told reporters.
"You can sense that he is impatient on the one hand but on the other knows that he is coming out of a difficult year. He needs time to return to full fitness."
