Cavani worried about Suarez

Cape Town - Edinson Cavani admits Uruguay are "discouraged" by Luis Suarez's injury problems but remain hopeful over the fitness of the Liverpool striker.

Cavani, a world class striker in his own right, will be responsible for leading Uruguay's attack should Saurez fail to regain his fitness after knee surgery. However, according to the SkySports website, the PSG frontman would be far happier to share the spotlight with the Premier League's top-scorer.

The controversial Liverpool star is a national hero in Uruguay and his race against time to be fit for the group stage is being treated in Montevideo in the same manner as David Beckham's injury in 2002.

It seems that Uruguay have given up hope that Saurez will take the field for his national side's first Soccer World Cup fixture against Costa Rica. At this stage Uruguay are hopeful that Suarez would play some part in the vital second group match against an England side led by Liverpool team-mate Steven Gerrard.

Speaking to El Pais ahead of Friday's warm-up match against Northern Ireland, Cavani said the national squad was discouraged by Saurez's injury especially due to the timing but was confident that Saurez would have a trouble free recovery in the hope that the Liverpool star would link up with the team as soon as possible.

Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin was equally concerned about Suarez saying that he felt ill when he found out about the unexpected injury to Uruguay's star player. Godin remains positive and confirmed that Suarez had the side's backing in his race against time.
