Bilbao extends Muniain's contract

Bilbao - Athletic Bilbao midfielder Iker Muniain has agreed to a contract extension that will keep him at the Basque club through the end of the 2018-19 season.

The club says Muniain's new buyout clause will be €45 million.

The 22-year-old Muniain is recovering from torn ligaments in his left knee after suffering the season-ending injury in April.

He has played for Bilbao for the past five seasons and was under contract until 2017.
