Instanbul - Turkish side Genclerbirligi on Tuesday confirmed they have agreed a deal with former Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter to lead the team next season.
The move was expected, but club president Ilhan Cavcav says it is now a done deal and that Baxter is their new coach.
“For a month I have spoken to various people about the coach and we have now concluded our contract with Baxter,” Cavcav told reporters in Turkey.
“The agreement that we have today (on Tuesday) needs the approval of the board of directors and I have submitted it to them.”
Cavcav was confident the agreement would meet with approval.
Baxter joins a club that it looking to revive its better days after finishing ninth in the Turkish league last season.
Their last league title came in 1946, though they did win the Turkish Cup in 2001.
Baxter left Chiefs with a year remaining on his contract after leading the team to a second league title in three years last season. He also won the Nedbank Cup and MTN8 during his time at Naturena.
