Cape Town - Half a dozen Atletico Madrid players were overlooked at the award ceremony honouring last season's performances.
Atletico Madrid, who won last season's La Liga title by cruising past both Real Madrid and Barcelona, were snubbed on Monday evening as not a single player from their victorious squad managed to walk away with a personal award from the Awards Gala of the LFP.
Atleti had six nominees on the night, including goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, defenders Felipe Luis, Miranda, Gabi, midfielder Koke and striker and Diego Costa but failed to win one of the 10 awards on offer.
Manager Diego Simeone bagged the "Best Coach" award to avoid a complete overlooking of the La Liga champions.
“I want to share this with my technical team and also with my players, Courtois, Miranda, Gabi, Koke...” said Simeone, hinting at his displeasure with how the evening went for his club.
Barcelona won just one award as Andres Iniesta snatched the "Best Attacking Midfielder" award.
Last season, Real Madrid came third behind Barcelona and the eventual winners of La Liga, Atletico Madrid. Simeone's side took over the first place spot in week 29 of the season and kept it for the remaining 10 weeks.
