Johannesburg - Former Kaizer Chiefs defender David Nyathi believes Gavin Hunt is the right man to take over the Bafana Bafana coaching job from Carlos Alberto Parreira, when the Brazilian steps down after the World Cup later this year.
SAFA president Kirsten Nematandani recently revealed that a South African will take over the Bafana Bafana coaching job after the World Cup, leading many to speculate who the ideal person for the job is.
Bafana assistant coach Pitso Mosimane appears to be many pundits’ favourite given his current role, but Hunt has over the years proven his quality and is also the most qualified South African coach.
“Gavin Hunt is the ideal person for the (Bafana) job. He is well traveled, he understands the culture and the football community, but the one thing that he has that will benefit the country is the fact that he has a system. “He has a philosophy, and a belief in a system and sticks to it. He introduces his plan and sticks to it, that is why SuperSport United are so successful. They are a disciplined team who play to the strict instructions from their coach. Hunt also knows how to get the best out of his players.”
Despite his preference for Hunt, Nyathi also said it would be sad if Mosimane didn’t get the job as he has been involved with Bafana Bafana for so long.
“It will be sad if Pitso doesn’t get the job because of all the sacrifices he has made and he has obviously learnt from all the foreign coaches, so he could even have the edge over Gavin in that regard.
“But it is about time we start trusting own people, who knows, maybe Gavin Hunt and Pitso Mosimane could work together and do very well with the national team.”
