"It was a good performance from our side, so we're happy, but it was a difficult game," Hunt said.
"There's another (second leg) match and we're looking forward to it, but I don't want to say too much or I might get in trouble."
Man-of-the-Match George Maluleka believed the hosts had done well to keep the Buccaneers at bay in the second half.
"After the red card the boys managed to absorb the pressure very well," Maluleka said.
Pirates coach Augusto Palacios credited SuperSport for holding on with one less player on the field, and he hoped his side would make use of home ground advantage in the second leg clash this weekend.
"Sometimes with 10 players it can be more difficult but SuperSport defended very well," Palacios said.
"We'll be at home in the second match so we're going to need to score goals."
Pirates host United in the return leg at Orlando Stadium on Saturday night.
Moroka Swallows and Mamelodi Sundowns, who drew 3-3 in their first leg fixture at the weekend, square up in Dobsonville on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Premier Soccer League season shifts focus towards the league for midweek fixtures.
Maritzburg United are at home to AmaZulu at Harry Gwala Stadium on Tuesday night and Premiership newcomers Chippa United host Free State Stars at Athlone Stadium.
