Johannesburg - Bafana Bafana coach Joel Santana has praised his players for displaying "beautiful football" during their 1-0 victory over Zambia in an international friendly at Atteridgeville Super Stadium on Tuesday.
Bafana had a superb day on Tuesday recording their fifth straight victory in great style.
Orlando Pirates star midfielder Teko Modise crowned yet another fine performance by South Africa in recent months with a splendid place kick in the second half to send the capacity crowd into a frenzy.
Speaking at a Press conference after the game, Santana said that even though victory was important for Bafana, what was more impressive was their performance on the field.
“We played beautiful football and deserved to win. The players knew what we wanted to do and we made no mistakes in our passing.
“For me, it is not only important to win but also important to win by playing beautiful football and my players did that on Tuesday against Zambia."
Santana singled out striker Mabhuti Khenyeza and defender Lucas Thwala as two that impressed him most.
“The two players who played very well Tuesday night were our striker (Khenyeza) and our leftback (Thwala). I liked the way Lucas played; he was good in marking, and showed confidence.”
The Brazilian conceded that their next friendly match, against Chile in Limpopo next month, will be a tougher test as they prepare for the Fifa Confederations Cup that will be staged in South Africa during June.
“We have watched them playing during the Copa tournament. They are a team with experience and the game is going to provide a strong and good test for us.”
