Gould blow for Chiefs, Bafana

Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs will be without Morgan Gould for a large portion of the Premier Soccer League season after he underwent surgery on his Achilles tendon.

The Bafana Bafana centre-back suffered the injury during training this week, and scans revealed the powerful defender will be missing for between four and six months.

The injury comes as a huge blow to Amakhosi, who had to reach deep into the transfer kitty to lure him away from SuperSport United in the off-season, while he is now also likely to miss the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations finals on home soil.

The news will come as a hard pill to swallow for Gould, who also missed out on the previous instalment of the African showpiece following Bafana's failure to qualify for the finals.

Meanwhile, Chiefs managed to follow up their PSL opening day thrashing of AmaZulu with another superb performance to see of Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in the second round of fixtures on Wednesday.
