Golden handshake for CEO

2010-12-21 08:54

Johannesburg - Outgoing SAFA Chief Executive Officer Lesley Sedibe will receive a rather handsome bonus before packing up his office later this month.

Sedibe's contract with SAFA comes to an end this month (December) so the association has no financial obligations towards the soon to be ex-CEO.

However Sedibe, who is a lawyer by trade, will receive a golden handshake to the value of R2 million as dividends that all SAFA CEO's qualify for when they step down.

"It's normal that as the CEO when you leave the position that there is a send-off package that, based on your performance ratings, can be given. Like his predecessors, he deserves the gratuity or dividends which will be a big thank you for a job well done. He delivered on his mandate for the association," revealed a high ranking source within SAFA.

Bafana Bafana aren't even among the top 100 sides in the world.

      Katlego - 2010-12-21 09:14

They are number 51 in the Fifa world rankings.

LOL - this is a joke!! I bet that is part of the "BIG" bonus that FIFA gave to SAFA after the SWC! And what of the EX. OC employees that were ripped off with their "incentive" bonuses and never got their performance bonuses and that are still unemployed after the SWC! This makes me ill to my stomach!! I don't believe he did anything to deserve such a big bonus!!!

Check your facts slg, I think you'll find they're currently in 51st position: Certainly not world beaters (yet), but no use slating them like that.

Are you kidding me? R2 million bonus after forgetting to enter the under 23 side in the All Africa games qualifiers! There should be a law against this.

      Kaapie - 2010-12-21 10:39

Absolutely... people think bonuses are a right..

      Rolie - 2010-12-21 11:14

It pays to have your head up your ar&e at SAFA. Soort soek soort.

I believe Mr Sedibe has done a fantasic job for the short period he has been at SAFA. However SA people, this should be the first thing we must start practicing than critising just cos of monetary issues. Lest we forget that at the time he took office our own SAFA was in disarray with our Bafana Bafana lacking renown warm-up matches in time for then World Cup, certain Admin individuals were busy pursuing their business opportunities at the expense of SAFA and Bafana cashing in on the World Cup, Mr Sedibe managed acquiring Bafana camp despite many critic remarks, he was there when Carlos Arberto Parreira was recalled to steady our Bafana, when SAFA was in the midst of another Presidential row. Why do we now think that all these were small assignments to manage, let alone being involved in all these mist? Remember at some extent Mr Sedibe was hugely stressed and wanted out? Can somebody tell me that one can become stressful doing easy jobs? I don't think so. See thats why our Nation is like this, we applaud rapists, fraudsters, cheaters and crooks even when we are aware of their trends leaving honest and innocent people who work their butt off for the betterment of our Nation's success, goals and achievements. I for one would like to categorically state here that Mr Lesley Sedibe has done a wonderful and noble job at SAFA and that he deserves any bonus renumeration. I congratulate you Sir!
