Soccer City to host final
Johannesburg - The stadium that hosted the opening and closing games of the 2010 FIFA World Cup will, on September 10, host the final of this season’s MTN8 edition between Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.
The venue will be the FNB Stadium, Chiefs’ home ground for the 2011/12 Absa Premiership campaign. Pirates were drawn as the home team for this R8 million Wafa Wafa tournament.
The draw was conducted on Sunday, at Loftus Versfeld after Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns played to a 1-1 draw to give Pirates the edge and book the spot in the final, with a 4-3 aggregate score over two legs.
Pirates coach, Julio Cesar Leal, said it does not really matter where they play as they will be going out to defend their title.
"It is just one of the three trophies that we have to defend and we have to start well. I know it is the first trophy the team won last season so if we start well by defending this it will be good, not just for the team but me as a coach and Dr Irvin Khoza as the chairman. We are ready to play at Soccer City and win," the Brazilian born mentor said.
