London - Five reactions following England's 2-1 last-16 humbling by Iceland at Euro 2016 on Monday:

Former Barcelona and England striking great Gary Lineker tweeted:

"The worst defeat in our history. England beaten by a country with more volcanoes than professional footballers. Well played Iceland."

Former England captain Alan Shearer tweeted:

"England - Shocking. Pathetic. Inept. Well done Iceland, you were brilliant."

Former England striker Ian Wright on ITV:

"The second half was embarrasing, it was terrible. Balls going over feet."

Former England central defender Rio Ferdinand tweeted:

"What a sporting achievement for Iceland. But Gone into a tournament not knowing the best team. Did the shape suit our players?? Not for me.

"We need an identity....said it many times. Im gobsmacked."

Former England striker Peter Crouch on ITV:

"It is embarrassing there is no dressing this up."
