West Ham sign Man United striker

Cape Town - West Ham United have announced the signing of 20-year-old striker Ashley Fletcher from Premier League rivals Manchester United.

The promising youngster has put pen to paper on a four-year contract with the Hammers, having spent the second half of last season on loan at promotion-winning Barnsley.

"I am very excited to be here," Fletcher told the club's official website. "West Ham are a massive club and I am just happy that I can come and further my development here at West Ham.

"I think it is a Club with a lot of ambition. They have a lot of good players and it was a special final season. They managed to finish the campaign very well.

"West Ham are a Club built on traditions of giving youngsters a run and hopefully I can get my chance as well."

Fletcher joined Manchester United at the age of 13 and featured regularly in youth and reserve sides.

However, he failed to break into the first-team picture at Old Trafford and has been deemed surplus to requirements following the recent appointment of Jose Mourinho.
