Wenger: Sanchez never asked to leave

Cape Town - Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger insists that star forward Alexis Sanchez never asked to leave the club and that Paris Saint-Germain have given up on him.

Sanchez revealed last week that he told the Gunners he wants Champions League football, something Wenger's side can't provide this season, but the Arsenal boss has denied that the Chilean made such a demand.

PSG have reportedly been in pursuit of the 28-year-old, but Wenger believes they have turned their attention to Barcelona's Neymar because Sanchez is not leaving.

"Has he asked to leave? No. PSG can't get Sanchez, so they are going for Neymar," Wenger said, via Sky Sports.

"My mind has been made up for a while now. I think I've made it clear a few times; that this is my stance.

"We are in a strong financial position. Sanchez has got one year to go on his contract and we have no need to make money.

"He will be part of the team next year and after that I can understand it.
