Cape Town - Arsenal
manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that there is still a chance for
midfielder Jack Wilshere to earn himself a new contract at the north
London outfit.
Wilshere was surplus to requirements for Wenger last season and was sent out on loan to Premier League rivals Bournemouth, where he missed the latter part of the campaign with a leg fracture.
However, the 25-year-old is back in training with the Gunners and Wenger has given him hope of extending his stay. The Englishman's contract expires in less than a year.
"If he gets back to his best and wants to stay, we have to sit down, I think, later in the season. I don't rule that out," Wenger said, as quoted by Sky Sports.
"You know how much I love Jack and his talent, I started him at the age of 17 but today in the football world you need to be a consistent presence."
The Gunners next face a trip to Anfield where they will go up against fellow title contenders, Liverpool on Sunday.
Kick off is at 17:00.
