Wenger delighted with exceptional Alexis, Ozil

Cape Town - Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil starred as Arsenal routed Everton on Sunday, and manager Arsene Wenger has used it as proof of the team’s unity.

Both players are reportedly seeking moves away from the club, but seemed committed to the cause with their goals in the 5-2 win at Goodison Park.

"I believe that (Sanchez) comes back from injury and has worked very hard, Ozil as well," Wenger said.

"The two of them were sharp physically, very mobile and if you have their individual quality, that makes them dangerous against any defender. (Sanchez) was on fire.

"(Ozil) was superb. Agile, quick, intelligent. Always at the service of the team with his quality of his passing and when he is at that level, he is an exceptional football player.

"We live in an environment where we have to deal with the news and the players and myself have only always one response, which is what's happening on the football pitch.

"When you see Mesut on the football pitch like he is today, enjoying his game like he is today, it's difficult to believe these kinds of things."

Wayne Rooney opened the scoring for the Toffees with a superb strike early on, but Nacho Monreal and Ozil put the Gunners ahead before a red card for Idrissa Gueye helped Alexandre Lacazette, Aaron Ramsey, and Sanchez run riot.

"We didn't panic, we maintained our focus on the game, and after that, it looked like it was all us for the rest of the game," Wenger added.

"I was concerned going behind because recently we have been punished for every single mistake we have made away from home. But I thought there was a long time to go, so let's come back before half-time.

"It was a mental test but we kept going, we kept our focus and slowly the quality of our movement, the quality of our passing gave Everton problems. After that, with the offensive strength we have, of course, that made the difference."
