Cape Town - Norwich City midfielder Alexander Tettey has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after it was revealed his ankle injury would require surgery.
The Ghana-born footballer was forced to leave the field during the Yellows' 2-1 defeat to Chelsea, following a nasty knock he sustained on his right foot and was eventually taken for an MRI.
Scans revealed the extent of the injury and the fact it would require surgery, effectively ruling him out for the remainder of the campaign.
Head coach Alex Neil the midfielder's injury is a huge blow for his team and their battle for survival in the English topflight.
"Alex's ankle isn't in good shape so unfortunately he needs an operation," coach Neil told Norwich City TV. "He's wholehearted player; he went in for a challenge and the lad's landed on him. It's the same injury as one he's had on his other ankle before, which got operated on.
"It's a big blow for him and also for the team as he's probably going to miss the remainder of the season."
