London - Chelsea captain John Terry has offered to pay the funeral costs of an 8-year-old fan of the club who died of leukemia last month.

Terry said he was "devastated" to hear of the death of Tommi Miller, who the player met following a game last year, and told local media he wants Tommi to get "the send-off he deserves."

Tommi's mother, Ruth, says "I'm overwhelmed really, because Tommi was such a great fan of John Terry in particular."

The funeral will take place on Thursday.

A hundred blue balloons will be released into the sky during the service.
