Cape Town - Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes is of the opinion that Wayne Rooney has earned the right to decide where he wants to play next season.
Rooney has been relegated to occupying the bench for most of the campaign under United manager Jose Mourinho, and has made only nine starts in the Premier League.
The club captain has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford when the transfer window opens, and Scholes believes as United's all-time top scorer Rooney should be able to make the call.
"Wayne's been an unbelievable player for Manchester United. It's up to him, I suppose really," the former England international told Omnisport.
"If he wants to stay, great. If he doesn't, wants to go and play football... you have to respect his decision.
"He's been a sensational footballer for Manchester United, won great things, scored a ridiculous amount of goals. I think he's earned the right to decide what he wants to do."
