Cape Town - Karl-Heinz Rumminegge is certain Schweinsteiger will remain at United, despite reports that Jose Mourinho is releasing several players - including the midfielder.
Schweinsteiger swapped Bayern Munich for the Red Devils at the start of the 2015/16 season, but his entry into the Premier League was a difficult one beset with injury problems.
Rumminegge believes that, given the chance, the 31-year-old will surprise the Portuguese manager with his quality. He also laughed off claims that if the player was to return to Germany that he would sign for a club other than Bayern.
“I am 100% convinced that Schweinsteiger will not return to Germany,” the Bundesliga legend told German newspaperTZ.
“Bayern Munich are his club and he would never play for another Bundesliga club. I would be hugely surprised if that were to happen.
“I can see him stay at Manchester United and try to achieve their goals under a new coach. Maybe he could surprise Mourinho.
“Either way, Bastian has had an amazing career. Nothing can change that.”
Mourinho shocked many United fans this week when news broke that nine players will be axed from the club's squad, among them not only Schweinsteiger but also promising youngsters Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Adnan Januzaj.
