Rooney to end career at Old Trafford?

Cape Town - Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has revealed his desire to sign a new contract at the club in order to remain there until he decides to retire.

The 30-year-old, who has three years remaining on his current contract with the Old Trafford outfit, said he would sign a new deal if the opportunity presented himself.

"I have a contract at the club that I want to see out and wouldn't be against extending it but that's up to the club," he told The Metro.

Rooney became the club's top earner after signing five-year deal in 2014 and, with the arrival of Jose Mourinho, reports have emerged that suggest the captain will be a less prominent figure at United next season.

The England national captain spoke of his positional change to midfield for both club and country and highlighted that adaptation is a key-part of playing football - drawing comparisons with former teammate Ryan Giggs.

"All players' games develop and change over time. Look at Giggsy towards the end of his career compared to the beginning. What I can say is I will continue to develop my game and adapt and improve throughout.

"Over time and with experience, you see the game and experience the game differently, which leads to different decisions.

"I think my record shows I have always enjoyed assisting goals as much as scoring them and I also enjoy the involvement from deeper position," he concluded.
